UN-Habitat Kosovo supports institutions in governance, urban and spatial planning, and sustainable development.
Within the Inclusive Development Programme, UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (MESPI), provides strategic support to build municipal planning and management capacities, strengthen social cohesion, and enhance multi-level governance.
The intern will be based in Prishtina and will report directly to the Spatial/Urban Planning Advisor, under the overall guidance of the Chief Technical Advisor.
Key Responsibilities
Support data collection, organization, and analysis to inform municipal planning processes.
Assist in drafting and reviewing Municipal Development Plans (MDPs), zoning maps, and planning-related legal frameworks.
Support capacity-building of municipal planning units, including training assistance and technical inputs.
Promote dialogue among local authorities, civil society, and stakeholders by supporting events, workshops, and focus groups, including reporting and minute-taking.
Contribute to the preparation of written outputs, such as background papers, reports, studies, or inputs to publications.
Support the drafting of news items, press releases, or web/social media content.
Provide logistical and administrative support for programme implementation.
Perform other planning-related tasks as required.
Qualifications / Special Skills
At the time of application, applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
Graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or equivalent
Computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite)
Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter
Ability to successfully interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs
Preferred areas of study: Architecture with urban focus, Urban or Spatial Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences with relevance to planning and governance
Academic knowledge or project-based experience in:
Architecture, urban or spatial planning, geography, or related disciplines
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Familiarity with GIS, planning support tools, or design software is desirable
Experience contributing to municipal development plans, zoning maps, legal frameworks, or stakeholder consultations is desirable
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree, Master’s or PhD programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD programme
Provide proof of enrollment or graduation when requested
Describe proficiency in computer software and GIS/mapping/visualization tools, providing examples from academic or project work
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English is required
Knowledge of another UN language is desirable
