Expected Duration

  • 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat Focal Point for Children and Youth, the intern will:

  • Assist in conducting desk reviews and facilitate stakeholder mapping related to youth and children in urban settings.
  • Contribute to the preparation of knowledge products, background papers, briefing notes, and reports.
  • Support the design, planning, implementation, and documentation of child- and youth-focused projects or initiatives.
  • Contribute to logistical and administrative preparations for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Support outreach activities to promote youth participation in urban policy dialogues and community-led planning processes.
  • Assist in engagement and liaison with youth-led organizations, child rights networks, and urban governance institutions.
  • Assist in drafting communications materials, including social media posts, blogs, and newsletters that amplify children and youth voices in urban development.
  • Support in tracking progress on youth- and child-specific components of HRSIU’s projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of periodic internal and donor reports.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher),
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level), or
  • Have graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or equivalent.

Other required skills and attributes:

  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals.
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
  • Preferred fields of study: Human rights, gender, urban planning, sustainable development, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in supporting or leading youth or child engagement activities is required.
  • Experience in working with youth- or child-focused networks is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
