Duties and Responsibilities

  • UNDSS provides leadership, operational support, and oversight of the UN Security Management System (UNSMS) globally.
  • Enables safe and effective delivery of UN programmes in complex environments while maximizing resources.
  • Aligned under a clear mission to provide trusted security leadership and solutions.
  • Offers interns the opportunity to gain skills, advance security expertise, and contribute to peace, security, human rights, and SDGs.
  • The Division of Partnerships and Specialized Support (DPSS) provides standards, specialized support, and leads innovations and digital transformation in UNSMS operations.
  • Internship is UNPAID, full-time (35 hours/week), in-person, with potential hybrid or part-time arrangements upon request.

Intern Responsibilities (Information Management Unit)

  • Collaborate with IMU colleagues to gather technical and programmatic requirements for digital solutions.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, Power Apps applications, and Power Automate flows.
  • Support troubleshooting, testing, and refinement of applications and dashboards based on user feedback.
  • Contribute to data entry and curation in Dataverse, SharePoint, and SQL Server, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Draft user documentation and training materials, and assist in capacity-building sessions to strengthen data literacy.
  • Participate in cross-departmental collaboration to enhance interoperability and data governance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Enrolled in a graduate degree programme (or final year of a bachelor’s programme) or recently graduated with a university degree.
  • Completed online application including Cover Note and Personal History Profile.

  • Must adhere to rules regarding relationship to UN staff (no direct supervision by related staff).
  • Follow UN Internship Programme regulations, including intellectual property rights, impartiality, confidentiality, and conduct standards.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, AI, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office 365 required; familiarity with Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse is an asset.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, visualization, or data governance principles is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required.

Intern Specific Information

  • Interns are unpaid; travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may need to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
