Duties and Responsibilities
OICT serves as the UN Secretariat’s central ICT entity, overseeing major UN platforms, strengthening cybersecurity, managing global ICT infrastructure, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
Guided by the Secretariat’s ICT Strategy, OICT focuses on:
Accelerating innovation with frontier technologies (AI, blockchain)
Strengthening ICT resilience via cybersecurity and operational safeguards
Enabling digital transformation aligned with UN goals and mandates
Under supervision of the Open Source Team Lead, Social Media Intern duties include:
Use Trello to plan, create, and curate social media content; maintain weekly editorial calendars; collect multimedia info from various departments
Monitor sources for new UN-related content and updates
Edit and subtitle news videos for social media using software like Adobe Premiere Pro; create visuals, quote cards, and other materials using Canva or Adobe Photoshop
Attend press conferences and events to gather quotes, photos, and videos for social media posts
Take photographs and make short videos at UN events and other venues
Draft posts for X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
Research trends and posts from partners and suggest reposts
Monitor social media accounts for followers’ comments and questions
Conduct weekly analysis of best-performing posts and suggest improvements
Draft visual monthly reports on social media performance and fill in monthly statistics in Excel
Attend biweekly press briefings and prepare summaries
Carry out other tasks as requested by the Open Source Team
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in or completed final year of first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level)
Desirable fields of study: ICT, Information Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Information Management, Project Management, Business Management, or related field
Required skills:
Developing and scheduling social media content across major platforms (Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) to increase engagement
Desirable skills:
Researching industry trends, audience preferences, and competitor activities to inform content strategies
Monitoring and responding to comments/messages to enhance brand reputation
Organizing and running social media campaigns, coordinating posts, and analyzing post-campaign data
Demonstrated interest in UN work and commitment to UN Charter ideals
Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds, respecting diverse opinions
Languages
English and French are UN working languages
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage

Visa and Work Authorization:
For internships in the USA, non-US citizens/permanent residents require a G4 visa
Selected candidates are responsible for obtaining valid visa and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT)
