Work Location

  • Geneva, Switzerland

Expected Duration

  • Six months, from 19 January 2026; in-person

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use UNIS Trello Boards to plan, create, and curate social media content on a daily basis; maintain and update weekly editorial calendars; collect and collate multimedia information from different departments and organizations
  • Monitor various sources for new content and information about what is happening in and around the UN
  • Edit and subtitle news videos for UN Geneva social media channels using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Create visuals, quote cards, and other materials as requested using tools like Canva or Adobe Photoshop
  • Attend press conferences and events at UN Geneva to gather quotes, take photos, and capture videos for social media posts
  • Take photographs and make short videos at various events at UN Geneva and beyond
  • Draft posts for X, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Research trends and posts from partners and suggest reposts
  • Monitor social media accounts for followers’ comments and questions and flag them to the Press Officer
  • Conduct weekly analysis of best performing posts and suggest improvements
  • Draft visual monthly reports on the performance of @UNGeneva social media accounts and complete monthly statistics reporting in Excel
  • Attend biweekly press briefings and prepare summaries in English
  • Attend meetings of human rights treaty bodies, the Human Rights Council, and other events
  • Contribute to daily media monitoring of Swiss newspapers (in French, German, Italian, and English)
  • Carry out other tasks as requested by the United Nations Information Service

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but should provide any relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or practical skills
  • Must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme
  • Provide proof of enrollment or completion of relevant academic programme

Languages

  • Fluency in English required
  • Knowledge of French is an advantage

Additional Information

  • No prior work experience is required; applicants should list relevant training, education, coursework, or practical skills, especially in communications, social media campaigns, photo, or video editing software

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization
