About ECLAC: The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, founded in 1948. Its mission is to contribute to the region’s economic and social development through:
Designing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies
Providing advisory services, expertise, and training to governments
Supporting regional and international cooperation and coordination activities
Selection: Candidates may be chosen on an “as-needed” basis during the posting period
Supervision: Under the guidance of the Unit Supervisor
Main Focus:
Support substantive work in the field of circular economy applied to urban land use management in Latin America and the Caribbean
Daily tasks will vary based on the candidate’s background and internship period
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and analyse census and household survey data across LAC, with an emphasis on urban contexts
Develop indicators to assess dwelling conditions
Support literature reviews on urban studies in LAC
Synthesize and summarize key findings
Additional Duties May Include:
Research, compile, organize, and analyse information and reference materials from various sources for reports, work plans, studies, briefings, meetings, and conferences
Proofread documents and translate (Spanish/English)
Edit texts for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, style, and formatting standards
Prepare content for reports, publications, and presentations, including tables, lists, graphs, charts, and diagrams
Prepare, adapt, and review web content
Format documents in line with organizational standards
Compile statistical data for sustainable urban development reporting
Qualifications / Special Skills
Education:
High school diploma required
Enrolled in, or have completed:
A graduate programme (Master’s, second university degree, or equivalent), OR
The final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
Experience:
No prior professional experience required, but field of study must be relevant to the internship
Ability to manage, process, and clean databases (please detail relevant software skills)
Additional Requirements:
Ability to cover travel, visa, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses for the internship duration
Indicate if you have previously completed a UN internship (entity and dates)
Languages
Required: Fluency in spoken and written Spanish
Advantage: Knowledge of English
