Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is the Secretariat Department responsible for:
-
- Strengthening international human rights mechanisms
- Enhancing equality and countering discrimination
- Combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law
- Integrating human rights in development and in the economic sphere
- Widening the democratic space
- Early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence, and insecurity
- This announcement concerns international internship assignments with the Communications and Public Mobilization Section (CPMS) of the External Outreach and Partnerships Service (EOPS).
- Established in 2013, EOPS works to create synergies among external relations services to maximize impact.
- The CPMS comprises five thematic areas/units:
- Audio-visual
- Graphic Design
- Social Media
- Editorial
- Web
- The Section develops and implements strategies to:
- Improve general awareness of human rights issues
- Generate support for OHCHR’s human rights work
- Interns will be based in Geneva, Switzerland.
- Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Section, the intern will report to the head of the respective unit.
- The internship may be offered for an initial period of three (3) months, renewable up to six (6) months, starting between May 2024 and July 2024.
- This internship is UNPAID and full-time.
- The internship provides a framework for students from diverse academic backgrounds to gain exposure to the UN’s work.

Qualifications / Special Skills:
- Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

- Be a student in the final year of a Bachelor’s program (or equivalent)
- Be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program (or equivalent)
- Have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program
- Proof of enrollment or graduation must be submitted during the application and will be required later.
- No previous work experience is necessary.
- Relevant training, coursework, or skills should be of benefit to the United Nations during the internship.
- Ability to create video or graphic content for social media is required.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of French is an asset.
- Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an advantage.
Additional Information (Intern Specific):
- Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
- Costs and arrangements related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
- Non-resident interns may need to secure appropriate visa and work authorization prior to the internship.
- Successful candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the offer.
