Internship located in the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) at UN Headquarters, New York
UNOCT established by the General Assembly in June 2017 (A/RES/71/291)
UNOCT functions include:
Provide leadership on General Assembly counter-terrorism mandates across the UN system
Enhance coordination across the 45 Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force entities
Strengthen UN counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States
Improve visibility, advocacy, and resource mobilization for UN counter-terrorism efforts
Ensure priority is given to counter-terrorism and violent extremism prevention across the UN system
Overall aim: Support Member States in implementing the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy through capacity building
Internship offered within the Global Programme on Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (PRR), providing technical assistance to Member States in prosecution, rehabilitation, and reintegration strategies for individuals suspected of terrorism, including foreign terrorist fighters and family members
Intern will work under the supervision of the Unit Chief of PRR and the M&E Specialist
Responsibilities
Conduct desktop research and analysis on relevant topics related to PRR and counter-terrorism
Contribute to the development of data collection tools (e.g., surveys, interview guides) for PRR activities
Support data collection, including setting up online surveys and scheduling interviews with stakeholders
Conduct basic data analysis in Excel, with training and support from M&E Specialist if required
Assist in preparing reports, including evaluation reports, results snapshots, and presentations
Participate in meetings and conferences, drafting notes, summaries, and reports as appropriate
Perform other tasks as required
Qualifications/Special Skills
Meet one of the following at the time of application:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school program (second university degree or higher)
Enrolled in or completed the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level)
Field of study should be closely related to the internship type
Students in final year of Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program or graduates are eligible
Must provide proof of enrollment or graduation at the time of application
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required
Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset
Official UN languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish
