Duration of the internship is three (3) months, with a possibility of extension to six (6) months.
This is a UNPAID internship, full-time (35 hours per week), primarily in-person at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, with the possibility of remote or part-time arrangements (20 hours per week).
Located in the Prosecution, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (PRR) Unit of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
Intern reports to a Political Affairs Officer, under overall guidance from the Senior Political Affairs Officer and Chief of the Section.
PRR responsibilities include:
Providing strategic counter-terrorism policy advice and analysis.
Drafting and coordinating reports of the Secretary-General on counter-terrorism.
Promoting coordination across UN counter-terrorism and PVE efforts.
Developing relations with Member States and partnerships with international, regional, and sub-regional organizations, including civil society.
Supporting intergovernmental processes, including the biennial review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Supporting planning and organization of major UNOCT policy events.
Intern tasks may include:
Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations, and slide decks.
Attend and summarize conferences and meetings.
Gather, select, and analyze information from communications, publications, and press.
Assist in data collection, conduct research, and provide analysis on relevant topics.
Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment.
Assist in developing and maintaining databases.
Support the review of key reports and publications.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (Master’s or higher).
Enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Field of study must be closely related to the internship.
Must provide proof of enrollment or completion.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an asset.
