The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in China, including all UN entities present.
The Resident Coordinators System (RCS) brings together UN agencies to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level and strengthen partnerships for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) supports the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team by providing inter-agency coordination support and managing working mechanisms, including theme groups.
Key functions of the RCO include:
Strategic analysis, planning, and positioning of the Country Team
Preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF)
Support to joint UN programming and operations management
Policy guidance
Joint advocacy and communications to enhance UN coherence
Improving overall programme impact of the UN System in China
The RCO is looking for a motivated intern to join the Data team on a full-time basis.
The internship is expected to start around September 2025 and last for 6 months.
The internship provides an opportunity to:
Actively engage in UN data, monitoring, and reporting initiatives
Gain hands-on experience with various UN analysis and reporting deliverables
Learn about the functions and roles of a wide range of UN agencies
Gain insight into the UN country programming process
Understand how the UN interacts with counterparts
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Work schedule: five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second degree or higher)
Enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s or equivalent)
Field of study should be closely related to the internship applied for.
Preferred majors: Data Science, Statistics, Economics, International Relations, Development Studies, or other relevant fields.
Technical skills:
Good command of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel
Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, R, Power BI) is desirable
Demonstrated interest in international organizations and multilateralism is an asset.
Applicants must provide official proof of academic enrolment or completion.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required.
Intern Specific Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the UN.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
Successful candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship.
