Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of government and the international community for action.
UNEP’s Policy and Programme Division (PPD) is a center of excellence for strategic guidance and programmatic policy for UNEP, enabling UNEP’s strategic and programmatic direction, ensuring organization-wide coherence and effectiveness in implementation and continuous improvement. The internship position is based in the Quality Assurance Section.
Under the overall supervision of the Gender Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Gender Associate Officer the intern will be responsible for the following:
Qualifications/special skills
A university degree in Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or related field with course work in areas such as gender studies, environmental and social impact assessment, impact measurement labour issues, community health and safety, Indigenous rights / Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples, disability rights, inclusion, minority studies, and poverty analysis.

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.

Applicants must have a strong knowledge of standard software applications including MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint, MS Outlook.
An interest or work in working on issues surrounding gender, social safeguards, environmental safeguards in the context of Leave No One Behind (LNOB) is highly desirable.
Experience in or interest in working with Leave No One Behind (LNOB), and gender and social intersectional inclusion is highly desirable. Inclusion includes inclusion of minority groups and vulnerable communities, gender inclusion, persons with disability inclusion.
Experience with the usage of photo editing software (such as Photoshop, Canva, Power Point Presentation, designing skills etc.) is desirable.
Experience with video editing is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
