Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief of Member Services, the intern will support the Member Services Unit in strengthening engagement with GEO’s 116 Member governments, aiming to improve Member participation, ownership, policy advocacy, and financial commitments to GEO.
The intern will be responsible for:
- Maintaining and updating contact information for GEO Members, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records of GEO Principals, Alternates, Focal Points, and other key contacts in the contact management system, with an initial review completed by April 2026.
- Conducting a quantitative assessment of Member engagement based on participation in GEO governance bodies and key events in 2025–2026, and preparing a report by October 2026.
- Researching, drafting, and updating GEO Member profiles, with at least 20 profiles developed or revised by December 2026.
- Improving Member-facing content on the GEO website to ensure it is accurate, current, and user-friendly, and assisting with content generation for the bi-monthly Member newsletter (e.g., blog posts).
- Supporting Member engagement activities led by the Chief of Member Services and the Member Services Associate, including preparing background materials, organizing meetings, taking notes, and tracking follow-up actions.
- Providing general administrative and research support to the Member Services Unit as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Public Administration, Geography, Earth Sciences, Political Science, or a related field.
Experience
- No previous work experience is required. Experience with research, communications, or data management is an advantage.
Other Requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural and diverse team.
- Good analytical and drafting skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
- Proficiency in design tools and software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) to create visually appealing materials.
- Detail-oriented and proactive.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
- Knowledge of another official Organization language is considered an asset.
- (Official languages of the Organization: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.)
Additional Information
The internship includes a learning component that provides practical experience in government engagement processes and diplomacy, data management and analysis, strategic communications, and coordination support across 116 Members in a global intergovernmental partnership context.
