Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region’s economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. These internships will take place in different divisions of ECLAC and will last 6 months, depending on the needs of the Offices. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an “as-needed” basis. The internships take place within the Republic of Korea-ECLAC Cooperation Programme.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include:
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- For this internship, studies in the area of International Development Cooperation is desirable.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Intern Specific text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
