The Internship Programme attracts talented students and recent graduates with specific interest or academic background relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and have less than two years of relevant work experience.

Eligibility Criteria

Interns should:

  • Have a specific interest in, or academic studies covering, areas relevant to IOM programmes.
  • Hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or require the internship to complete their studies.
  • Be sponsored by governmental/non-governmental institutions or academia to work in areas relevant to IOM and the sponsor.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months.
  • Be between 20 and 36 years of age.
Background Information

In support of the Embassy and Consulate of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Berlin, Germany, IOM provides administrative visa-related services across nine Visa Application Centers (VACs) in Europe, ensuring a timely and convenient visa application process.

Under the overall direction of the Chief of Mission and direct supervision of the KVAC Team Leader, the intern will assist with daily operational activities at the Korea Visa Application Centre (KVAC).

Responsibilities

Supervision

  • The intern will be directly supervised by the KVAC Team Leader.

Learning Objectives & Tasks

  • Assist the KVAC team with daily operational activities, including receiving and sorting visa applications delivered by post, passport and document logistics, and ordering visa application supporting documents per checklist.
  • Support communications with beneficiaries according to standard operating procedures, including contacting applicants for missing documents or passport collection.
  • Attend project meetings and training sessions with the project coordinator and other KVAC teams (Berlin, Paris, The Hague).
  • Assist in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned.

Training Components and Learning Elements

  • Gain firsthand experience working directly with applicants and providing client support.
Qualifications

Education

  • Student or recent graduate, preferably in Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field.

Experience

  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in an international team.

Skills

  • High computer literacy, particularly in MS Office, with proficiency in MS Excel.
  • First experience in customer service or public assistance is an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Knowledge of Korean or another official IOM language (French or Spanish) is an advantage.

Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
