Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the internship encompass all aspects of the Directorate’s work. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in analysing and interpreting international, regional, and domestic legal instruments
  • Assisting in planning and organizing meetings, briefings, roundtables, seminars, and other CTED events
  • Supporting the preparation and logistical arrangements for CTC/CTED meetings and events
  • Preparing background notes and talking points for meetings, missions, and events attended by CTED staff
  • Conducting research to support CTED analytical products on trends and developments in terrorism and counter-terrorism
  • Researching, drafting, and updating country profiles and background documents for high-level meetings
  • Assisting with the preparation of infographics and visual aids for CTED documents and presentations
  • Attending and taking notes at meetings, conferences, and other events; preparing summaries and reports
  • Performing other ad-hoc tasks as instructed
  • An interest in counterterrorism issues or international criminal law is desirable

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or equivalent), or
  • In the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor’s or equivalent), or
  • Have graduated from such a programme and, if selected, can begin the internship within one year of graduation
  • Fields of study preferred: law, political science, international relations, social sciences, or related fields

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable

Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
  • Non-citizen/permanent resident interns may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization
  • Selected candidates should confirm specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer
