The internship is with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), within the Life Cycle Initiative unit of the Resources and Markets Branch, Industry and Economy Division.
Reports to the Head of the Life Cycle Initiative and coordinates with Programme Officers.
The Life Cycle Initiative is a public-private, multi-stakeholder partnership that:
Advances understanding of life cycle thinking (LCT) among private and public decision makers and life cycle experts.
Builds consensus on and facilitates access to environmental, social, and economic life cycle knowledge (LCA data, methods, indicators, etc.).
Internship focus: Projects related to Life Cycle Thinking (LCT) and Sustainable Consumption and Production, supporting high-impact sectors such as Buildings and Construction, Mining and Extractives, and Textiles.
Two internship positions available: one in-person, one remote.
Responsibilities:
Support activities that encourage mainstreaming of life cycle thinking in high-impact sectors.
Assist with research, data collection, and analysis on life cycle thinking, hotspot analysis, and related areas as requested by Programme Officers.
Support research and coordination for outreach to existing and new partners and members, in line with the Life Cycle Initiative strategy.
Provide day-to-day support for project activities, including:
Drafting documents, minutes, and presentations.
Updating and maintaining the Initiative’s members/sponsors list and related documents.
Contribute to the Unit’s communications, including social media posts, online presentation of materials, and website updates.
Assist with logistical preparation of meetings, events, and webinars, including presentations and drafting summary reports.
Support cross-unit collaboration opportunities.
Perform additional tasks as requested by the team.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher); or
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
Graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Academic background (Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in environmental science, political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences, or related field.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.

Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
