The Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of ESCAP works to strengthen ICT connectivity and enhance regional cooperation and capacity for improved disaster risk reduction and management, addressing associated socio-economic risks toward inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
This internship is located within the Disaster Risk Reduction Section (DRS) of the division.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time, for two to six months, depending on division needs. Preference is given to applicants who can commit to a longer duration.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) in-person under the supervision of the Chief, Disaster Risk Reduction Section, and relevant officers leading task teams and projects. Remote internships may be considered case-by-case.
Daily responsibilities depend on the intern’s background, assigned office, and internship period, and may include:
Contributing to quantitative and qualitative analysis on the socio-economic impacts of disasters.
Assisting in organizing international conferences and meetings.
Carrying out other ad hoc tasks as required by the Section and Division.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.
Intern-Specific Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
