Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

CARE is seeking a strategic, data-driven fundraising professional to join our team as Major and Principal Giving Portfolio Manager. This role is critical to powering CARE’s mission by equipping our Major and Principal Giving team with the insights, systems, and strategies needed to grow our philanthropic revenue. 

As Manager, you will work with Prospect Research team to identify and qualify high-net-worth prospects so that you can optimize fundraising portfolios and enhance donor pipeline management. You’ll apply industry best practices in research and prospect management to inform strategy, track performance, and support relationship managers in building meaningful, long-term donor partnerships. 

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives, you will serve as a strategic partner to fundraisers with a dotted-line relationship to Sr. Director of Fundraising Operations to ensure alignment with CARE’s Operational processes and policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prospect Management & Portfolio Optimization

  • Lead regular portfolio review sessions with Major and Principal Gift fundraisers, preparing data-driven briefs and facilitating strategy discussions on channel assignment, engagement tactics, and pipeline progression. 
  • Maintain and refine moves-management workflows, ensuring accurate tracking of donor interactions, solicitations, and outcomes.

Prospect Research & Identification

  • Research and write donor/prospect bios and do basic wealth screens using external databases and internal systems. 
  • Assist fundraisers in requesting and preparing comprehensive philanthropic and wealth research on individuals using tools/expertise provided by Prospect Research team; prepare reports and/or summaries using data received. 
  • Generate and manage ratings (capacity, inclination) to qualify and prioritize prospects. 
  • Proactively support with identifying new high-potential prospects via screening, network analysis, and external lists. 
  • Stay informed on high-net-worth giving trends, research tools, and philanthropic strategies.

Data & Reporting

  • Develop dashboards and reports to monitor portfolio health, fundraising performance, and KPI achievement. 
  • Prepare and present monthly analysis to leadership, offering strategic insights and recommending pivots based on donor trends and performance data.

Special Projects

  • Lead post-event prospect review processes for key donor events such as the Impact Awards, including follow-up strategies and reassignment recommendations. 
  • Support special projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in prospect research, moves management, or development analytics
  • Proficient with fundraising CRMs (e.g. Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud), research tools (WealthEngine, iWave, LexisNexis), and data visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Strong analytical skills (wealth modeling, capacity ratings), with attention to detail and ability to synthesize large datasets into insights.
  • Excellent communication skills—able to deliver research briefs, training, and presentations to diverse audiences.
