Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Research Analyst will serve as an authority on prospect research, philanthropic trends, and patterns of wealth and industry. You will provide best practice recommendations and vision for effective resources and tools and ensure adherence to industry-standard ethical and confidentiality guidelines, as well as CARE’s standards for ethics and data privacy. 

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Fundraising Operations, you will use a variety of sources to determine prospect’s giving potential based on assets, philanthropic propensity and historical giving. You will prepare biographical and wealth potential reports for fundraising teams, the Office of the President and other CARE teams as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prospect Research & Reporting

  • Conducts complex biographical, philanthropic, and financial research on Individuals, Corporations, and Foundations and provide intelligence on relationship mapping for donors, prospects, and board members. 
  • Direct the creation and dissemination of research deliverables tailored to internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity, relevance, and actionable insights. 
  • Corporate due diligence/risk assessments for U.S. and International CARE offices who do not have access to their own risk management assessment tools

Prospect Identification, Moves Management & Data Analysis

  • Lead efforts to identify, qualify, and categorize prospects for Principal, Major, Mid-level, and Planned Giving pipelines. 
  • Provide strategic recommendations on moves management and reallocation of prospects across channels. 
  • Coordinate the daily review of the gift log to identify to flag potential prospects; look for duplicate accounts and identify gifts not credited to the right channel. 
  • Manage the preparation and execution of wealth screenings, analyze results and develop reports that synthesize findings into strategic recommendations. 
  • Serve as liaison with CRM team on research tools integrated with Salesforce. 
  • Track research findings in CRM system and assist with organization-wide efforts to acquire and maintain institutional data according to best practices in data management. 
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and recommend new tools/processes

Data Analysis & Wealth Screening

  • Manage the preparation and execution of wealth screenings, analyze results and develop reports that synthesize findings into strategic recommendations. 
  • Serve as liaison with CRM team on research tools integrated with Salesforce. 
  • Track research findings in CRM system and assist with organization-wide efforts to acquire and maintain institutional data according to best practices in data management. 
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and recommend new tools/processes

Fundraising/Economic Trend Analysis & Special Projects

  • Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on general philanthropic trends, economic indicators, and patterns of wealth across industries. 
  • Develop quarterly U.S. and global fundraising trend reports to inform strategic initiatives, including Big Bets and other high-priority campaigns. 
  • Lead special research initiatives to support emerging program areas, campaign planning, or new fundraising strategies. 
  • Support and sometimes cover for other research positions in times of high volume

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 4 years prospect research experience.
  • Experience using CRM systems, iWave, LexisNexis and/or other prospect research software is required.
  • Excellent written communication skills and a clear, concise writing style are key to this position.
  • Significant aptitude with research methods and experience with computers and relational databases.
  • Ability to follow ethical standards, utilize discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in prospect research for in a large nonprofit or higher education setting
  • Experience using Salesforce and/or NPSP
