Duties and Responsibilities
The intern shall support the OHCHR Pacific Regional Office in fulfilling its mission to protect and promote human rights across the region. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Regional Office with internal and external communication
  • Developing tools and procedures for improved strategic communication on social media
  • Supporting advocacy efforts around international days, including through One UN messaging
  • Optimizing communication among Multi-Country Offices (UNCTs) in the Pacific
  • Assisting with research and preparation of reports, documents, and other written materials
  • Supporting responses to requests for information on human rights situations in the region and/or specific countries
  • Preparing and updating country profiles, briefing packages, and daily/monthly reports and updates
  • Assisting in taking minutes of meetings
  • Attending and organizing meetings, conferences, and events on behalf of the Regional Office
  • Performing other professional duties as requested

Qualifications / Special Skills
To be eligible for the United Nations Secretariat Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of submission:

  • Be currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (Master’s degree or equivalent)
  • Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a Bachelor’s degree programme
  • Have graduated with a university degree within the above categories

Preferred fields include:

  • Law
  • Human rights
  • Political science
  • International relations
  • Related disciplines

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Fluency in Fijian (iTaukei) and Fijian Hindi is an asset
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat

  • Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses must be covered by the intern or their sponsoring institution
