Expected Duration

  • 4–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Section, the intern will contribute to the activities of the Information Unit in the following areas:

  • Designing engaging visuals, including videos, animated clips, photo montages, quote cards, posters, infographics, brochures, and other content for social media and the website
  • Daily media monitoring and dissemination of news about UNECE (all languages, all online media, using Meltwater, Factiva, and web searches)
  • Preparing monthly and ad-hoc reports on UNECE press coverage for senior management
  • Photo coverage of meetings and events
  • Drafting, scheduling, and posting content on UNECE accounts (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube), including use of Hootsuite
  • Preparing and distributing the UNECE weekly newsletters in English (via LinkedIn)
  • Assisting with research, fact-checking, and drafting news stories and other communications content
  • The intern is expected to work in the office

Qualifications / Special Skills

Education

  • Applicants must meet one of the following:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent)
    • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications
  • Have experience and background in graphic design and video editing
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance and understanding

Work Experience

  • No professional work experience is required for the internship programme

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
  • Fluency in another official UN language is desirable (preferably French or Russian)

Assessment

  • Written test in English with practical communication-related tasks
  • Work location: Intern is expected to work in the UNECE office in Geneva, Switzerland

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization
