This internship is open to national candidates only.
The position is located in the Office of the Chief of Mission Support within the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), based in Bogotá.
The intern will work under the overall supervision of the Associate Field Translator.
Main responsibilities include:
Assisting with the translation of a variety of texts covering a broad range of subjects handled by the United Nations, including political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, medical, and technical topics.
Ensuring translations meet established workload and quality standards, while integrating a gender-sensitive perspective, especially in the use of language.
Becoming familiar with existing UNVMC editorial guidelines, United Nations terminology, and style, and assisting in their application to source and target texts.
Supporting the collection of data related to linguistic services provided.
Maintaining strict security and confidentiality of all information handled.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements:
Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (Master’s degree, Ph.D., or postgraduate equivalent).
Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
The programme of study must be in languages (English and Spanish), translation, linguistics, or a related field.
Applicants are encouraged to highlight specific skills or experience relevant to the position.
Professional work experience is not required for UN internship programmes. However, training, education, or coursework should be relevant and beneficial to the United Nations during the internship.
Technical skills required:
Good knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams).
Knowledge of or experience using computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and data visualization or business intelligence platforms is desirable.
Languages
The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French.
For this internship, excellent command of both Spanish and English is required.
Working knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset.
