Duties and Responsibilities:
The Office of the Executive Director of UNODC and Director-General of UNOV is hiring an intern at the UNODC and UNOV headquarters in Vienna, Austria, as soon as possible. This internship is full-time and unpaid, providing practical experience in communications and policy coordination at an international organization.
Under the supervision of the Policy Coordination Officer, the intern will:
- Research, compile, and review relevant data for briefs and presentations for the Executive Director
- Review concept notes and project documents/revisions
- Prepare briefing materials for the Executive Director’s engagements, including bilateral meetings and missions
- Review divisional submissions to the Executive Director, including quarterly activity reports
- Research and compile data and information for use in speeches and strategic communications products and documents
- Contribute to the drafting of communication products for the DG/ED, with a focus on strategic audience engagement
- Assist with strategic planning and organization of photo and video services for the DG/ED to support key communication products
- Assist with organizing and archiving the DG/ED’s multimedia products (photos, videos, etc.)
- Perform other tasks as necessary
Qualifications/Special Skills:
- Must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a degree programme in political science, international relations, journalism, communications, or other related field
- Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate programme (second university degree or higher)
- Be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
- Demonstrable experience in policy research and analysis is desirable
- Excellent communication skills are desirable
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is desirable
Languages:
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an advantage
Additional Information (Intern-Specific):
- Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
- Interns are responsible for travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses
- Non-resident interns may be required to obtain a visa or work authorization
- Successful candidates should discuss visa requirements before accepting the offer
