The Malawi Clean Energy Cooperatives Program (CECP) is a four-year initiative of NRECA International, with funding support from USAID, to promote the development of five new clean energy cooperative enterprises in rural Malawi. The Malawi CECP Project Director will reside in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Project Director will have a background in cooperative development or community organization, ideally with experience in formation of cooperative enterprises. The Project Director will be responsible for establishing and developing the CECP relationship with the Ministry of Energy/MAREP team; and for leading identification and development of new electric cooperative enterprises including formation, training and financing new cooperatives. The Project Director will also supervise a team of Malawian professional and administrative staff, and coordinate training and mentoring of cooperative board members, cooperative general managers and commercial and operations cooperative employees. The Project Director will collaborate with NRECA International’s engineering and procurement personnel engaged in procurement and installation of power systems infrastructure in the new clean energy cooperatives.
Qualifications:
NRECA International is a rural development organization whose mission is to increase access to reliable electric service in developing countries. Since 1962, NRECA’s programs have focused on improving and expanding electric infrastructure, establishing self-sustaining and well-managed electric utilities, and providing technical assistance to national electrification planners.
NRECA is currently working on three continents to provide expertise in renewable energy on- and off-grid feasibility studies, utility design and construction; geospatial platforms for electrification investment planning; universal electrification strategy planning; utility operations and service improvements; project design, procurement and construction supervision; and engineering design and analysis.
Current projects are underway in Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Zambia and projects were recently completed in Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bolivia, Central African Republic, Chile, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Guinea, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Niger, Papua New Guinea, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
