Job Description

Work Location

  • Kathmandu, Nepal (in-person)

Expected Duration

  • 6 months
  • Desired start date: January 2026

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support in one or more of UNRCPD’s key programmatic areas:
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction
    • Conventional Arms and Ammunition
    • Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education
    • Cross-Cutting Issues: Gender, Youth, Emerging Technologies Security
  • Assist the Office with strategic communication and public outreach.
  • Develop media products for web and social networking platforms.
  • Contribute to content management and develop disarmament stories and information to increase awareness.
  • Draft and edit publications, such as fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, and donor-related updates.
  • Design and produce presentations and supporting materials to increase ODA’s visibility and outreach.
  • Proactively suggest ideas for design projects to add value to the Office’s work.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Applicants with access to Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are highly desirable, though not required.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • No professional work experience is required, but the field of study should be closely related to the internship.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

  • Personal History Profile must include all past work experiences, IT skills, and contact details of three references.

  • Internship is UNPAID and full-time (35 hours/week).
  • Interns report to the Director of UNRCPD and work under the supervision of a professional staff member.

Intern Specific Text

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require a visa or work/employment authorization.
  • Visa requirements should be discussed prior to accepting the internship offer.
