The United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) are part of the Strategic Communications Division of the Department of Global Communications.
UNICs promote public understanding of and support for the UN by sharing information about the Organization in local languages, engaging with media, educational institutions, governments, civil society, and the private sector.
The internship is based at UNIC Lima and offered initially for two months, with a potential extension up to six months depending on department needs.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time (35 hours/week), with potential part-time schedules depending on UNIC Lima’s requirements.
Intern Responsibilities
Report to UNIC Lima’s National Information Officer.
Contribute to preparing graphic material for social media campaigns.
Provide general office support and respond to information requests and inquiries.
Assist in producing and delivering communication products and services.
Support media outreach, including distribution of press releases and other materials to mass media and civil society organizations.
Update and maintain internal databases.
Update the UN website and social media accounts in Peru, drafting and editing content with guidance from subject matter experts.
Research and compile information for communications products/services about the UN.
Assist with audio-visual material: produce digital images, write captions for photos, support video/film, radio, or website projects, including scriptwriting, cue cards, and cataloguing of media materials.
Support the development and production of social media content and online initiatives to raise awareness of UN work.
Monitor news and social media relevant to UN priorities and prepare daily news briefings.
Assist in updating UNIC Lima directories and distribution lists.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Basic education required: High School Diploma.
Must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
No prior work experience is required; training, education, and skills should contribute to the UN during the internship.
Languages
Spanish and English are the working languages of UNIC.
Fluency in spoken, read, and written Spanish is required.
Additional Information
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require appropriate visas and work/employment authorization.
Successful candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship.
