The Role
The Skills Adviser, drawing on their prior experience in the skills and training sector across the Pacific and Timor-Leste within the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) will provide training and technical input to the Pacific Australia Skills team for initiatives that develop national skills development capability to meet the demands of labor markets and nationally accredited qualifications.
The Skills Adviser reports to the Skills Strengthening Manager to develop and implement activities that include training, coaching and mentoring of partner trainers to support improvements in curriculum, learning materials and resources to ensure training and delivery meets the requirements of the relevant national regulator.
The Skills Adviser needs to be self-directed and able to work in remote and often difficult locations with the position located in Suva, Fiji.
Role and Responsibilities
· Provide advice and practical solutions to support partner training providers to meet national regulatory requirements for registration, accreditation, training delivery and administration.
· Under the direction and guidance of the Skills Strengthening Manager assist with the mentoring, coaching and support of partner institution staff in the development and delivery of training that complies with the standards of the national regulator.
· Particularly in relation to developing LLN and Work Skills required by the relevant training package and industry workplaces.
· Undertake skills development strengthening activity demonstrating an awareness of and sensitivity to cross-cultural settings.
· Lead and manage effective teaching and learning within classroom, workplace, simulated and online learning environments utilizing flexible, blended and inclusive techniques.
· Including where required Labour Mobility preparation and reintegration programs
· Provide advice and support to strengthen partnerships with local industry and community and other local stakeholders as and when required.
Selection Criteria
Essential Experience and Knowledge
· Demonstrated experience in the delivery of vocational training and assessment, along with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry experience in Work Skills delivery and LLN support.
· Current knowledge of training packages and experience using a wide range of flexible and effective learning methodologies and the ability to implement these in a cultural and inclusive manner.
· Demonstrated skills in mentoring and/or coaching others to facilitate capability development and support change in a culturally sensitive manner.
· Proven ability to work collaboratively and ethically with local skills development partners, government and stakeholders on quality skills improvement initiatives
· Understanding of and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), Child Protection, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), prevention of human trafficking, environmental protection, anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
