Position Summary: Under contract with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), DT Global is currently implementing the USAID Innovation for Affordable and Renewable Energy for All (INARA) Activity in Lebanon. This project works to increase the supply of electricity generation in Lebanon as well as promote the cost effectiveness, eco-friendliness, sustainability, and reliability of municipal power supply, while clarifying and strengthening the enabling environment for renewable energy (RE) based electrical power generation.

To maximize access to power to the largest beneficiaries of RE supply, DT Global will be undertaking the de- sign and construction of a large-scale 7 MW solar farm + battery storage micro-grid. The PV farm will be interconnected to the local electricity network and benefit a cluster of Lebanese communities outside of Beirut fed from the same medium voltage electricity distribution point (feeder line).

To support the development of this solar farm, DT Global is seeking a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Integrated Energy Systems Engineer Consultant with experience in renewable energy based micro-grids, solar plant design, development and construction to provide quality assurance, assessment and technical advising support to the DT Global INARA team.

This assignment will be carried out remotely, with potential travel to Beirut, Lebanon for site inspections as deemed necessary and dependent on client approval. The details below outline anticipated requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review INARA Activity documents related to the design and development of the solar farm and provide inputs and recommendations, such as:
  • Verifying micro-grid system sizing parameters and operational effectiveness using simulation software and using multiple loading and operational scenarios to match power generation with varying load profiles.
  • Undertaking/verifying grid impact assessments and load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage profile stability, system stability analysis,
  • Verify the integration and operational parameters of the different components of an integrated energy system including but not limited to: solar PV, BESS, utility, load management, and grid interfaces.
• Participate in virtual technical discussions with DT Global’s Lebanon field office staff as needed;
• Hold virtual meetings with different stakeholders, as useful and as organized by DT Global’s Chief of Party
• (COP) or her designee;
• Assist DT Global’s technical team with solar PV expertise (Specialized studies, recommendations, and re- porting);
• Assist DT Global’s technical team with grid connected battery energy storage solutions; and,
• Assist DT Global’s technical team in reviewing technical documents related to the solar plant processes and design documents provided by the contractor.

Education & Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 8 - 10 years of practical experience dealing with a range of key engineering aspects of solar power system generation and transmission, design and construction of solar plants, grid-connected battery energy storage systems, microgrids, Medium Voltage (MV) distribution & protection systems, and SCADA monitoring & control systems.
• Expertise in renewable energy based micro-grid simulation software.
• Expertise in energy flow analysis, electrical/power network analysis and grid impact study.
• Expertise in grid-connected battery energy storage solutions.
• Ability to travel and work overseas on short term technical assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Expertise in SCADA/DCS systems including management of different loading zones.
• Language ability in Arabic.
