UNPAID internship, may be full-time (35 hours/week) or part-time (20 hours/week).
Internship can be remote, hybrid, or in-person at the UN Premises, New York, United States.
Supervised by DPO/SCS Public Information Officer, Gender Communications.
Located in the Strategic Communications Section of the Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS), serving DPPA and DPO.
Reports to the Digital Communications Manager, Strategic Communications Section.
Assist the Strategic Communications Section with strategic communication and public outreach on gender-related issues, including Women, Peace and Security mandate, gender parity, and prevention of misconduct including sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assist in developing design, multimedia products, stories, and content for digital platforms (UN and UN Peacekeeping websites, intranet, Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Medium, Instagram) and monitor social media related to gender and misconduct issues.
Assist with drafting and editing UN Peacekeeping publications (fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, correspondences, pitches, donor updates) for internal and external audiences on gender and misconduct issues.
Support planning and live coverage of events.
Assist with planning, preparation, and implementation of campaigns and public events related to gender and misconduct (exhibitions, events, screenings, workshops, etc.).
Monitor social media and media trends to inform communications efforts on gender and misconduct including sexual exploitation and abuse.
Proactively contribute ideas for projects, media stories, and pitches to promote communications and build narrative on UN peacekeeping work in gender, Women, Peace and Security, and prevention of misconduct.
Prepare internal summaries and reports and support external presentations.
Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Field of study closely related to the internship type is required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or similar software.
Proficient in standard office automation equipment (scanner, printer, etc.).
Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to UN Charter ideals.
Ability to interact successfully with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Languages
Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
Knowledge of French strongly desirable; knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
