Internship: UNODC Regional Centre for Combatting Cybercrime – Doha, Qatar
Work Location: Doha, Qatar
Expected Duration: 01 August 2025 – 31 January 2026 (tentative)
Duties and Responsibilities
The UNODC Regional Centre for Combatting Cybercrime in Doha was established in June 2023 through a partnership between the State of Qatar and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Operating under the Global Programme on Cybercrime, the Centre aims to strengthen global responses to cybercrime through innovative, integrated, and tailored solutions. Its vision is to become the leading cybercrime training hub in the MENA Region and beyond.
The Centre provides training and capacity-building support to various stakeholders to:
- Strengthen the capacities of criminal justice practitioners and law enforcement officers in investigating, prosecuting, and adjudicating cybercrime.
- Enhance the capabilities of policymakers and government officials in preventing and countering cybercrime.
- Foster cooperation among government agencies at both national and international levels to combat cybercrime.
- Increase the resilience of governmental institutions, private sector entities, and civil society organizations (CSOs) in protecting vulnerable populations, including women and children, from cyber threats.
The Centre works with law enforcement officers, public prosecutors, police, museums, schools, and universities across Qatar, the MENA region, and internationally.
The internship is based at the UNODC Regional Centre for Combatting Cybercrime in Doha. The intern will report to the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer and will be expected to:
- Support the team in organizing and coordinating events such as training sessions, workshops, and conferences, with attention to logistics and participant engagement.
- Collect and analyze data from training activities, including participant feedback and learning outcomes, to support impact reporting.
- Conduct research on country-specific situations and emerging trends relevant to cybercrime.
- Assist in the preparation of briefing notes, statements, and presentations.
Note: This internship is UNPAID.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements:
- Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate-level degree (Master’s or equivalent);
- Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program.
Additional qualifications include:
- High school diploma required as minimum education.
- Computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams).
- Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
- Ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, with openness to differing opinions and perspectives.
- No prior professional work experience is required, though academic background relevant to the internship is essential.
Languages
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish).
Additional Information for Interns
- Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations.
- Travel, visa, accommodation, and living costs are the sole responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
- Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
