The internship is located in the Sustainable Energy Division (SED) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, Switzerland.
The internship is full-time and designed to be in-person.
The Sustainable Energy Division works to promote sustainable energy development in the ECE region with objectives including:
Sustained access to high-quality energy services for all individuals in the ECE region
Security of energy supplies in the short-, medium-, and long-term
Facilitation of the transition to renewable energy and reduction of environmental and health impacts
Well-balanced energy networks optimized for efficiency and regional cooperation
Improvements in energy efficiency, especially in countries with economies in transition
Integration of energy restructuring, legal, regulatory, pricing reforms, and social dimensions into policymaking
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the organization and servicing of intergovernmental and expert meetings covering:
Energy for sustainable development
Reducing the environmental footprint of energy
Accelerating deep transformation of the energy sector
Facilitating sustainable management of resources
Devising just energy transition pathways
Conduct research, perform data analysis, draft studies and short articles
Contribute to social media campaigns and outreach efforts by preparing promotional content
Assist the secretariat and experts in data collection and analysis, including web research and documentation
Carry out other tasks as required, such as meeting support, drafting reports, and updating UNECE databases
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following criteria:
Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school program (Master’s or higher)
Enrolled in, or completed, the final year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
A field of study closely related to the internship is required
Applicants must provide proof of their academic status at a later stage
Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams
Experience with AI, drafting news articles, and/or social media posts is desirable
Languages
Required: Fluency in spoken and written English
Advantageous: Working knowledge of French or Russian
UN official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish
Additional Information
Interns are not financially remunerated
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require visas or work authorization and should confirm requirements before accepting the internship
