More than 43 million additional health workers are needed to meet targets for universal health coverage around the world, according to a recent report by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.
With this in mind, and as part of an ongoing effort to highlight salary trends across the development sector, we took a look at salaries for global health roles that organizations have publicly shared on Devex’s job board.
In this edition of Career Hub, I’m sharing some of what we learned from analyzing nearly 800 global health job postings. We’ve been encouraging recruiters to include salary information in their Devex job postings, aiming to provide insights to job seekers and help foster a culture of salary transparency. Our latest analysis focuses on global health jobs posted on our board earlier this year.
Of the nearly 800 postings we analyzed, INGO roles typically included lower salaries compared to bilateral and multilateral organizations, but location and seniority level were key factors within organizations. Here is a sampling of the highest-paying roles that were available in the sector.
United States Agency for International Development — Health development deputy division chief
Max salary: $177,000
Location: Washington D.C., United States
Other USAID jobs were among the highest-paid global health jobs posted this year, including a senior child health and immunization program manager role in Washington D.C. for $173,000.
UNICEF — Chief nutrition officer
Max salary: $146,000
Location: Kenya
Another UNICEF job in the high end of the spectrum was a senior health specialist in Senegal earning $139,000.
World Health Organization — Team leader (Vaccine Preventable Diseases)
Max salary: $139,000
Location: The Republic of Congo

How many consulting assignments should be included in the CV? I struggle with providing too much in this section.
I would focus more on what is relevant to the position rather than any specific number but also try to show duration over a certain amount of time. So, if you've been working as a consultant for the past 15 years, you want to show that you have 15 years of experience, so that means including something that's less relevant from 15 years ago, but you don't have to go into quite as much detail.
When it comes to page length, you should have relevant information be your guide rather than any specific page length, but you do want to establish yourself as a credible consultant. You also want to think about client diversity. If all of them are with one client, that may be a little less impressive than if you've worked with a variety of clients.
It’s also good to include specific dates for these, and it can be helpful to include the duration of an assignment, whether it was two months or two weeks. That doesn't necessarily mean that longer is better or shorter is better. It’s about showing the different kinds of ways that you've engaged and are able to engage with a client.
