Summary

Mr. Waiswa A.N.Ayazika is a specialist in environmental management with over twenty-six years (26)’ experience in the areas of strategic environmental assessments (SEA), environment and social impact assessment (ESIA), environmental auditing (EA), water resources management, cleaner production assessment, pollution management and climate change. Mr. Waiswa coordinated the Japanese funded capacity building programme on water pollution at the National Environment Management Authority in Uganda with emphasis on building capacity for water pollution management. He coordinated the Norwegian Funded Oil for Development Programme Environmental Pillar activities that included strengthening the policy, legal and technical aspects of environmental management of oil gas activities in Uganda. He was a member of the steering and coordination committee for the Uganda International Development Finance Strengthening Country Safeguards Systems project funded by the World Bank. Mr. Waiswa was a member of the consultancy team contracted by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and funded by the European Union to develop Environmental Impact Assessment Guidelines for the IGAD region. Mr. Waiswa was a counterpart to the team leader on the development of environmental impact assessment guidelines for shared ecosystems in East Africa funded by USAID under the auspices of the East African Community. Mr. Waiswa has provided capacity building in the environmental impact assessment in South Sudan, Sudan, Malawi, Zambia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Swaziland and Tanzania. Mr. Waiswa has been a member of the team that carried out Environmental Impact Assessment for the New Freetown International Airport Project – Mamamah in Sierra Leone. Mr. Waiswa was contracted by IOS Partners Inc as an Environment and Natural Resources Management Expert to carry out a Mid-term evaluation of the natural resources management project under the Millennium Challenge Account-Malawi funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Mr. Waiswa coordinated the development is environment and social impact assessment guidelines for the Mining, Energy, Fisheries and Agriculture sectors funded by UNDP. Mr. Waiswa coordinated the development of the sensitivity atlas for Albertine Graben for oil and gas funded by WWF. Mr. Waiswa was a facilitator to share regional experience at a workshop on mainstreaming Rio Convention provisions and enhanced MEA/SDGs coordination mechanism in South Sudan organized by UNEP and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry , South Sudan. Mr Waiswa worked with the National Environment Management Authority in Uganda for 24 years and 10 months as Environmental Standards Officer, Environmental Audits and Monitoring Officer, Environmental Impact Assessment Coordinator, Director Environmental Monitoring and Compliance and acting Executive Director. Mr. Waiswa provided Environment and Social Safeguards services to Rwenzori Rare Metals a company involved exploring and mining rare earth elements in Uganda. Mr. Waiswa is currently an Environment Safeguards Specialist with the World Food Program, Sudan Country Office.
