Mr Cevat Tosun
Key Competences:
Mr. Tosun is a well known Turkish expert specialized in design, planning and implementation of training activities in various forms including development and preparation of the training modules and training materials; conducting needs analysis; monitoring and measuring the effectiveness, efficiency and impacts of trainings along with both 23 years strong academic and project management experiences. He gained valuable experience in dealing with disadvantaged higher education students experiencing difficulties in accessing labour market, internship opportunities, credit or scholarship while he has been acting as director, head of departments and researcher at various Universities in Turkey, UK, USA and Kirgizstan.
After obtaining his Master and PhD degree from Business Faculty, University of Strathclyde, he has started to work as associate professor and founder director of School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Mustafa Kemal University as well as visiting professor at School of Tourism and Hotel Management, Bilkent University. Following that he obtained a Fulbright scholarship for conducting research in destination marketing in USA. He as well obtained research fellow scholarship from the Leverhulme Trust, UK in 2005, where he taught post graduate courses and conducted research at the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, Bournemouth University. Finally, he moved to Tourism Faculty at Gazi University, Ankara in 2011 and since has been working as Head of Tourism Management Department.
In the last 10 years Mr. Tosun got deeply involved in over 12 international donor funded projects, mainly EU and UNPD. In particularly, Mr. Tosun developed around 10 grant scheme projects in the area of Promoting Youth Employment and Promoting Women’s Employment with over one million Euros budget in total co-financed by European Union and Turkish Republic and successfully implemented them by working as trainer, training expert, training coordinator, project coordinator and consultant in cooperation with various local governments and chambers of commerce and industry. His core activities are focused on the conducting needs analysis, labour force analysis, development of vocational training modules and courses, evaluation of training programs, measuring impacts of trainings, coordination among the project partners, etc. In the area of training needs analysis and labour force analysis he worked as a key expert for the project called Technical Assistance for “Increasing the Adaptability of Employers and Employees in Tourism Sector with 7.5 million budget” and coordinating training needs analysis and labour force analysis in addition to developing training modules and programs for environmental friendly hotel management in 2014. Moreover, Mr. Tosun acted as a Key Expert / Consultant for Setting Standards for Tourism Products – Services at Turkish Standards Institution, Coordinator-Consultant for Training of Trainers Projects funded by Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), where he gained valuable insight of setting standards and designing - developing - delivering training for trainers.
He gained valuable experience in the area of training design and development, training programs delivery and training evaluation while appointed as Director of various higher education schools both at Mustafa Kemal and Gazi Universities. These, as well as other experience where he acted as researcher helped him gain useful knowledge when it comes to interpreting and making tailored made training needs analysis, labour force statistical analysis, and designing training evaluation forms in addition to having unique practical experience in organising all forms of training activities. Clearly, Mr. Tosun has already involved deeply in directly or indirectly aimed at increasing employability of the youth including the disadvantaged students through his 10 grant scheme projects in the scope of Promoting Youth Employment and Promoting Women’s Employment Grant Schemes funded by EU, managing vocational higher education school - higher education departments and teaching career development courses at under graduate level. Currently, he is teaching post graduate courses at Gazi University and acting as independent project assessor and designing and delivering training modules of research project for the Committee of Social and Humanistic Research, Scientific and Technological Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
