Mr. Daniel Gies is an experienced USAID/EU program manager and technical expert in economic growth, private sector promotion, agricultural development and value chain finance with over 24 years of experience, including 14 years in Chief of Party and/or Team Leader positions, implementing programs funded by USAID, EU, EBRD, GIZ, AfDB, World Bank, AFD and others. His expertise is in the design, launch and leadership of private-sector finance and investment programs in a range of sectors, including agriculture, banking, SME capacity, agro-inputs finance and loan guarantee schemes, among others. He has designed, managed and implemented private-sector investment programs and administered donor-funded investment facilitation funds, grant funds and EU-funded credit lines worth over $540 million in Sub-Saharan Africa, E. Europe, and Asia, which includes work with seven donors and 37 financial institutions supported with technical assistance, concessional funding or loan guarantees. He has served as Chief of Party, Team Leader, program manager and primary private sector / donor liaison in 22 countries. His background is securing new avenues for SME and rural finance, including developing innovative means of building capacity and increasing resources for cooperatives farmers and agro-SMEs. He is currently engaged in doctoral studies and is a proficient speaker of English, French, German and Serbo-Croatian.
