John Auma

John Auma LLM, M.A (Econ), MCIPS, is a senior International Public Procurement Management expert, economist, public sector expert, a former banker and Grant Management specialist with over 30 years’ experience in national and international work and technical assistance. Currently, John is the team leader of IGAD Promoting Peace and Security in the Horn of Africa responsible for the overall management of the programme for the last 4 years. Previously, he has been a head of public service in a sub-national government. John has held a number of team leading roles across Africa. In 2021, he was the team leader in USAID end of programme evaluation, senior advisor and team lead with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Kenya and Nigeria. He has international experience in a number of countries: Malawi, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Zambia, Rwanda, eSwatini, Botswana and South Sudan. John has exceptional knowledge and skills in public procurement including policy development, strategic planning, capacity building, and implementation. His expertise also extends to grant management, project management, and financial management in the public sector. John is known for his ability to develop and implement effective procurement strategies that ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money. With his extensive experience and expertise, John has been instrumental in driving positive change and delivering successful outcomes in complex and challenging environments. He is highly regarded for his leadership, problem-solving skills, and ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels. John is dedicated to promoting good governance, efficiency, and effectiveness in public procurement to support sustainable development and economic growth in Africa and beyond.
