Saroj Rai is a seasoned development manager and advisor with a well-proven track record in the Renewable Energy (RE) sector. He has good knowledge of development issues, solutions and the development cooperation and has a hands-on experience in conceptualizing, designing and implementing RE programs and projects, in complex multi-stakeholder environment. He in an innovative, self-motivated and result-oriented leader, manager and advisor. His major areas of thematic expertise include program management, policy advice, strategic management, quality management, private sector and market development, institutional strengthening, organizational development, linkage with credit, business development and resource mobilization. He has over 23 years of experience, of which 13 years in RE sector.

Saroj has extensive experience in domestic and productive biogas, Improved Cookstoves and solar PV. Besides these, he has been a lead advisor in providing Technical Assistance to an integrated multi-donor funded national RE program and to an innovative local capacity development project. He played a pivotal role in re-positioning SNV in Nepal’s relatively matured and complex RE sector in a short period, creating a new niche in ICS, including at the policy level. He is also knowledgeable and familiar with other RE technologies like micro hydropower and solar thermal. Before SNV, he was Executive Director of BSP-Nepal, implementing agency of Nepal’s Biogas Support Programme (BSP). He revamped BSP while strengthening private sector and securing carbon finance.
