Job Description
Chemonics seeks a Chief of Party (COP) for the ongoing USAID Water Governance Activity (WGA) in Jordan. The project aims to work with Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation to promote sustainable water sector management and governance by strengthening reform efforts, policy development and implementation, and capacity building for sector counterparts. The Chief of Party (COP) will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of the activity. This position will be based in Amman, Jordan. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide overall project leadership through strategic planning, management, and technical implementation
- Serve as the in-country representative to USAID, maintaining routine correspondence, ensuring pertinent information is disseminated appropriately
- Ensure that relevant, productive, and complementary activities are implemented effectively
- Monitor, and where necessary, modify programmatic assistance to achieve results
- Manage all professional and administrative work performed by staff
- Oversee and ensure highest quality contract performance in compliance with contract provisions
- Oversee contract budget and ensure accurate financial records are kept
- Conduct meetings and maintain relationships with Government of Jordan officials and other relevant stakeholders
- Provide guidance and technical direction to program subcontractors
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience on projects similar in complexity and scope
- Minimum 10 years experience in the water sector, preferably in water policy development and implementation, institutional reform, water resources management, water demand management and conservation, non-revenue water (NRW), and/or institutional capacity building of water sector institutions
- Experience working on development programs in the water sector in the Middle East and North Africa region highly desirable
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills necessary to develop, articulate, and implement the vision for this activity
- Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships with government officials, non-governmental organizations and other donors
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in English required
