The position is within the Office of Human Resources and Training Unit (HRTU), Management Advisory and Compliance Service (MACS) in Nairobi, Kenya.
This is an unpaid, full-time internship.
Internship Responsibilities
Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading content for internal and external communications materials.
Support the preparation of communication materials for outreach, advocacy, and knowledge sharing (articles, newsletters, briefs, social media content for HR).
Conduct research and prepare summaries of HR-related topics and discussions.
Support the preparation of background documents, agendas, and logistical presentations for events and meetings related to HRTU briefings and training sessions.
Assist with communication support for events, workshops, and campaigns.
Attend meetings and events, preparing summaries or reports of key discussions and outcomes.
Compile and analyze data and documents.
Assist in responding to general and HR-related inquiries.
Provide support for administrative tasks (e.g., formatting spreadsheets, proofreading, searching archives, running basic reports).
Support in reviewing and updating information on relevant websites for accessibility.
Maintain organized records of communications.
Assist with file management.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level).
Completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree.
Computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, demonstrating tolerance and understanding.
Preferred areas of study: Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or related fields.
Experience preparing communication materials (articles, newsletters, social media content) required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English required.
Knowledge of another UN language desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may need appropriate visas and work/employment authorization.
