Org. Setting and Reporting

  • The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities.
  • UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system.
  • The agency works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities, promoting urbanization as a transformative force to reduce inequality, discrimination, and poverty.
  • The position is in the Office of Human Resources and Training Unit (HRTU), Management Advisory and Compliance Service (MACS), Nairobi, Kenya.
  • The Graphics Design internship is for 6 months, UNPAID, and full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Support the HRTU team in their communication efforts to reach a wide range of clients on different communication initiatives.
  • Design and enhance the visual appeal of internal communication materials, including posters, quick guides, brochures, presentation decks, and templates.
  • Assist with improving the design and usability of online communication products.
  • Contribute to discussions on the visual identity of the HRTU team.
  • Liaise with relevant parties regarding job specifications and approval of mechanicals for dispatch.
  • Track and monitor production flow to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • At the time of application, meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master’s or higher)
    • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
    • Completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD/Doctorate program
  • Computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds, including tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
  • Preferred areas of study: Graphic Design or related fields.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but the field of study should relate closely to the internship.
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar is required.

Languages

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

  • Previous UN internship experience should be indicated, specifying the UN entity and dates.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated; costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require appropriate visas or work/employment authorization. Interns should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship offer
