Duties and Responsibilities

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
  • Under the direct supervision of the Regional Information Officer in the Regional Office for West Asia (Beirut), the intern will be assigned daily responsibilities based on the individual’s background, the office assigned to, the nature of specific projects, and internship duration.
  • The intern will support the team in monitoring and implementing communication tasks.
  • Intern Duties May Include:
    • Assist with daily press monitoring and collection of information on environmental issues in the region.
    • Assist with drafting information materials.
    • Support the development and management of social media content.
    • Update communications lists of events and calendars.
    • Assist with other research-related duties as required.
    • Support other business tasks as requested.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme (second university degree or higher).
    • Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Preferred Area of Study: Communications, Journalism, Design, or another relevant field.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs; willingness to understand and respect differing opinions.

Languages

  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
