The United Nations Secretary-General oversees the investment of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), delegated to the Representative of the Secretary-General (RSG) who heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM).
OIM manages a $95+ billion multi-asset global investment portfolio, approximately 80% of which is actively managed in-house.
Asset classes include global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber, and commodities.
Staff at OIM are based in New York and represent over 40 countries.
Internship is located in New York City within OIM, specifically the Data Analytics Team under the Data Analytics and Business Applications Office.
The team focuses on improving processes, solving complex issues, promoting data literacy, defining data policies and governance, and ensuring data quality.
Reports to the Data Engineers.
Flexible schedule: full-time or part-time, in-person or hybrid, adjustable based on the successful candidate’s request.
Key tasks:
Provide support in data research activities, data collection, and analysis, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches.
Research and support development of projects using APIs from third-party vendors with Python.
Identify opportunities to collaborate with innovation initiatives.
Support the team with other data-related tasks.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent).
Enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
Graduates must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
No prior professional work experience is required, but the field of study should be relevant to the internship.
Must have strong knowledge of standard software applications, Python, and good knowledge of SQL and data analytics.
Knowledge of Power BI, Power Apps, and database best practices is desirable.
Good technical writing skills and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
UN official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
