Job Description

Work Location

  • In person in New York or remote.
  • Full-time or part-time modalities may be considered.

Expected Duration

  • 3–6 months.
  • Desired start date: November–December 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as full members of the Office of Supply Chain Management (OSCM) team within the Department of Operational Support (DOS).
  • Pursue projects designed to make a significant difference in OSCM while learning about the United Nations.
  • OSCM covers:
    • Supply chain planning and performance management
    • Logistical support and procurement
    • Vendor management and supplier diversity
    • Aviation safety
    • Uniformed capabilities support
    • Advisory services for nearly 100 client entities globally and troop/police contributing countries (T/PCCs)
  • Report to the relevant supervisor.

Research Data Analyst Internship Tasks:

  • Gather and analyze data from various databases and sources.
  • Perform statistical and/or mathematical programming.
  • Develop reports and visual representations; maintain databases.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance on statistical methodology.
  • Use statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret results.
  • Design and implement study activities and process improvements.
  • Support data cleaning from primary or secondary sources.
  • Create simple data visualizations independently for internal or external use.
  • Translate data results into written reports or presentations for management.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns using basic machine learning techniques and statistical methods.
  • Contribute to innovative approaches and evidence-based reasoning for organizational issues.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of data science solutions for planning, decision-making, and implementation of programmes.
  • Assist in cataloguing and documenting new data sources and process pipelines.

Technical Familiarity / Skills:

  • Data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management.
  • Data visualization, dashboard development, and performance optimization.
  • Automation of streamlined workflows.
  • Data management techniques, quantitative analysis, and methods.
  • Tools: Excel, PowerPivot, PowerPoint, Microsoft SQL, PowerBI, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Qlik.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), OR
  • Enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), OR
  • Graduated with a university degree as defined above.
  • Open to broad educational and professional backgrounds; typically candidates have studies/experience in Analytics and Business Intelligence.
  • Relevant coursework in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics.
  • No prior working experience is required; training, education, and advanced coursework should benefit the UN during the internship.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Visa and work authorization are mandatory for internships in the USA. Non-US citizens/permanent residents must obtain a G4 visa and employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT).
  • Minimum duration: 3 months, extendable up to 6 months.
  • Flexible working arrangements (hybrid or remote) may be possible with written agreement.
  • Full provisions related to the UN Internship Programme: ST/AI/2020/1.
