The internship is in the Office of the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications (OUSG) within the Department of Global Communications (DGC)
DGC is responsible for telling the UN story across multiple platforms, digital and traditional, to build support for the aims and work of the United Nations
DGC operates globally through offices in 60 countries, reaching millions with trusted, objective, and inclusive information
The intern will report to the Special Assistant in the OUSG
Within delegated authority, the intern may be responsible for:
Assisting with research, classification, preservation, and access to key documents of the OUSG
Developing and maintaining systems to improve searchability and accessibility of knowledge products
Contributing to the design and layout of knowledge management tools and workflows
Assisting in developing a strategy on the use of AI tools for internal knowledge management
Performing other tasks related to OUSG as assigned
Note: Applicants who are children or siblings of a UN staff member are not eligible for the internship
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must:
Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), or
Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final year of a first university degree programme (bachelor’s level or equivalent)
Professional work experience is not required, but the field of study should be closely related to the internship
Academic background in information science, knowledge management, journalism, or related field is desirable
Strong writing and editing skills in English; additional UN languages are an asset
Detail-oriented with strong research and analytical skills
Interest in the work and values of the United Nations
Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment, with sensitivity to diverse perspectives and global issues
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when managing multiple tasks or deadlines
Familiarity with knowledge management software is desirable
Familiarity with AI tools for knowledge management in a professional capacity is desirable
Languages
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable
