Expected Duration

  • 2 to 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the ECLAC Washington Office in its research agenda under the supervision of the Director and other staff.
  • Conduct research on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, new technologies, and their impact on economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
  • Perform literature reviews to understand current research trends and implications for LAC.
  • Summarize and analyze relevant research papers and publications.
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions.
  • Attend conferences, webinars, and seminars relevant to the research topics.
  • Collect information from official country data, specialized agencies, and other sources.
  • Review and compile collected data, prepare reports, and update Office databases with tables, graphs, and charts including proper references.
  • Assist in day-to-day Office work as needed.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Field of study must be closely related to the internship.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need a visa or work/employment authorization.
  • Visa requirements should be discussed before accepting the internship offer.
