Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, founded in 1948 to promote economic and social development in the region. Its mission includes designing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies; providing advisory services, expertise, and training to governments; and supporting regional and international cooperation and coordination efforts.

This internship is offered within the Human Resources Section, Division of Administration, based in Santiago. The internship will last six months, depending on the needs of the office, and candidates may be selected throughout the posting period on an “as-needed” basis. The intern will report to the Chief of the Human Resources Section and work directly with the Human Resources Data Analysis Assistant.

Responsibilities:
Daily responsibilities will vary depending on the intern’s background and the needs of the unit. Duties may include:

  • Supporting research activities focused on human resources (HR) data analysis.
  • Assisting in the compilation of HR-related data.
  • Providing support to maintain databases containing HR statistics and indicators.
  • Helping identify errors and inconsistencies in data and proposing solutions.
  • Assisting in the preparation of datasets and inputs for periodic reports and information products.
  • Contributing to the search and testing of data visualization tools to develop innovative data products.
  • Supporting the preparation of newsletters and related materials on HR data analysis.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Additional desirable qualifications:

  • Studies in Management, Human Resources, Data Management, or related fields.
  • Background or training in data management and analysis.
  • Experience with data visualization, report preparation, and data presentation is desirable.
  • No professional work experience is required for participation in the UN Internship Programme.

Languages

  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
