The UNODC Programme Office in Peru builds national capacities to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, corruption, and environmental crimes, while strengthening the criminal justice system and promoting human rights and sustainable development.
The internship provides hands-on experience in international cooperation, with a focus on combating human trafficking, illicit flows linked to organized crime, and protecting vulnerable communities and natural resources.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time, five days per week (40 hours), under the supervision of a staff member in the assigned department.
Support implementation of the national work plan on anti-human trafficking and countering illicit flows linked to organized crime, including coordination of trainings, consultations, and missions with law enforcement, prosecutors, civil society, and other stakeholders.
Assist in coordinating activities and provide input to strengthen Peru’s response to human trafficking.
Contribute to data collection and analysis, research modus operandi of trafficking networks, develop technical and training materials, draft concept notes, background documents, and presentations for workshops and field activities.
Maintain regular contact with national counterparts, UN agencies, and stakeholders to ensure timely execution and reporting of project activities.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following:
Enrolled in, or recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
Enrolled in, or recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree). (Official written proof from the university must be attached to the application.)
Computer literate in standard software applications.
Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds, showing tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.
A competency interview is required.
Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is required.
Knowledge of an additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
