Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will support the Rule of Law Unit in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General, reporting to full-time professional staff. Duties include:

  • Support preparation of senior-level management meetings, conferences, and retreats.
  • Assist in the preparation of background and option papers, focusing on rule of law issues.
  • Track and analyze decisions and their implementation.
  • Assist in preparing speeches, talking points, and meeting materials.
  • Support the preparation of meeting notes and summaries.
  • Monitor, identify, and analyze global trends in rule of law and human rights.
  • Support preparation of reports, papers, and correspondences.
  • Monitor international, regional, and national developments in rule of law and human rights, producing weekly reports.

Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate degree programme (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
  • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).

No prior work experience is required, but applicants should have training, education, or skills beneficial to the United Nations. Desired skills and experience include:

  • Knowledge or interest in rule of law, law, human rights, international affairs, and gender equality.
  • Attention to detail and interest in leadership support.
  • Policy work, field experience, and executive support.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may need appropriate visa and work authorization.
  • Successful candidates should clarify visa requirements before accepting the internship
