UNDRR is the UN system’s focal point for disaster risk reduction, guiding, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on progress under the Sendai Framework 2015–2030
Supports regional and national implementation and works with UN Member States, civil society, private sector, parliamentarians, and scientific communities
The New York Liaison Office integrates disaster risk reduction into intergovernmental deliberations and UN Headquarters policy decisions
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations, meeting minutes, etc.
Support organization of intergovernmental meetings, conferences, and side events; provide substantive, logistical, and administrative support in virtual and hybrid formats
Collect and systematize information on disaster risk reduction practices and sustainable development issues; prepare briefings based on research and analysis
Support outreach, research, and analysis on current disaster risk reduction and sustainable development issues relevant to intergovernmental processes
Provide support for policy development, including review and analysis of emerging issues and trends related to disaster risk reduction, climate change, and sustainable development
Assist in maintaining databases, websites, and mailing lists
Qualifications / Special Skills
Must meet one of the following criteria:
Enrolled in or completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher)
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
Field of study should be closely related to the internship
Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating understanding and tolerance
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience
Languages
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of an additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable
