Job Description

Work Location

Expected Duration

  • 2 to 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform internet-based research and collect information on best practices, case studies, and recent research in urban disaster and climate resilience.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and updating of UNDRR’s urban disaster resilience toolkits, including the Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities, its addenda, and accompanying Excel tools.
  • Support the preparation, coordination, and delivery of capacity development training workshops for government officials and partners, focusing on urban resilience and disaster risk reduction.
  • Assist in the development of relevant publications, news articles, and newsletters.
  • Draft and prepare background documents, concept notes, reports, and presentations.
  • Collect disaggregated data on training participants, analyze training evaluation surveys, and prepare training reports.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Programme Management Officer, Capacity Development Section of GETI.

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a graduate program (second university degree or higher), or in the final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Relevant field of study in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, urban planning, or related areas.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Excel are desirable.
  • Skills in design software such as Canva or Adobe InDesign are desirable.
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of additional UN official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish), Korean, and/or Portuguese is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Internship is UNPAID, full-time, and in-person.
  • Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the assigned office.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Non-citizens may require appropriate visa or work/employment authorization.
